I'm an Allegro developer!

Well, more like minor contributor. It's only one feature and I don't have commit privilege on the svn. But I have been thinking of doing something in the Allegro source code so many times over the years and I finally did it.

Here's the revision where I make my first mark in the history of Allegro.

So what did I change, and why?
I was playing around with 3D. Since Allegro 5 so graciously supports opengl I thought I'd take a look at how easy it was to get started with opengl using Allegro. I turned out to be very easy, as I write over at my coding blog. http://drowcode.blogspot.com/2009/02/going-3d-with-allegro-5.html

I'm blogging about this on this blog because the coding blog is supposed to be usefull stuff. This blog is for personal stuff.

Anyway, after a bit of 3D coding I started working on a camera. And in 3D games you want to be able to turn around and around using the mouse. This means you need to set the mouse position to the center of the window to keep it from running off and stopping your rotational adventures at the edges.

But that feature was not implemented in Allegro yet! It was in the docs and I hear it was already working on Windows. But no one had done it in X yet. I asked about it on allegro.cc and a dev said "We accept patches". I was a little hesitant, working with API's at that level can be a real pain. I've tried and failed on windows, I'd rather shoot myself than work with Windows API ever again.

But I figured it was time to see what it was like to do something like that on X, in Linux. So I started poking around, browsing the sources, greping the files, reading the manuals. And eventually I figured it out, kinda. The patch I presented to the devs was not perfect, it had a glitch. But a master dev fixed that and everyone was happy.

I feel so awesome right now.
